Three new high-mass X-ray binaries in the Large Magellanic Cloud

چکیده
The Magellanic Clouds host a large population of high-mass X-ray binary (HMXB) systems, but although the Large Cloud (LMC) is an order magnitude more massive than Small Cloud, significantly fewer HMXBs are known. We conducted search for new in XMM-Newton observations, which we performed to investigate supernova remnant candidates supergiant shells LMC5 and LMC7. three observed fields located regions, were little explored X-rays before. analysed data look sources with hard spectrum counterparts optical colours brightness typical HMXBs. report discovery Be/X-ray binaries, two them showing pulsations their flux. With luminosity 6.5e34 erg/s, XMMU J045315.1-693242 LMC7 was relatively faint. long-term OGLE I-band light curve V = 15.5 mag counterpart suggests 49.6 day or 24.8 orbital period system. J045736.9-692727, also brighter 5.6e35 erg/s power-law photon index 0.63. flux revealed clear 317.7 s. obtained high resolution spectra from 14.2 using SALT-HRS spectrograph. Halpha Hbeta emission complex line profiles equivalent widths -8.0 A -1.3 A, respectively. shows series four strong outbursts followed by sudden drop 1 within 73-165 days recovery level before outbursts. RX J0524.2-6620, previously classified as candidate, at eastern part LMC5. 360.7 s pulsations. (abridged)

High-mass X-ray binaries in the Magellanic Clouds
We present a catalogue of high-mass X-ray binaries in the Magellanic Clouds. The catalogue lists source name(s), coordinates, apparent magnitudes, orbital parameters, and X-ray luminosity of 128 high-mass X-ray binaries, together with stellar parameters of the components, other characteristic properties and a comprehensive selection of the relevant literature. The aim of this catalogue is to pr...
متن کاملOptical properties of High-Mass X-ray Binaries (HMXB) in the Small Magellanic Cloud
The SMC represents an exciting opportunity to observe the direct results of tidal interactions on star birth. One of the best indicators of recent star birth activity is the presence of significant numbers of High-Mass X-ray Binaries (HMXBs) and the SMC has them in abundance! We present results from nearly 10 years of monitoring these systems plus a wealth of other groundbased optical data. Tog...
متن کاملHigh Mass X-ray Binary Modeling: The Magellanic Cloud Populations
We construct models for the population of high mass X-ray binaries (HMXRBs) in the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC) and Small Magellanic Cloud (SMC). In particular , we investigate the eeect which the lower stellar metallicities of the Magellanic Clouds (MCs) has on the evolution and properties of HMXRBs. From the observed properties of the relatively small number of identiied HMXRBs in the MCs, it...
متن کاملThe population of massive X - ray binaries ⋆ I . The Large Magellanic Cloud
We present high resolution blue spectroscopy of an almost complete sample of optical counterparts to massive X-ray binaries in the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC) and derive their spectral classification. We find an spectral type B0II for the optical counterpart to RX J0532.5−6551, confirming it as the first wind-fed massive X-ray binary in the LMC. We also confirm the Be nature of the proposed co...
متن کاملINTEGRAL and New Classes of High-Mass X-Ray Binaries
The gamma-ray observatory INTEGRAL, launched in October 2002, produces a wealth of discoveries and new results on compact high energy Galactic objects, nuclear gammaray line emission, diffuse line and continuum emission, cosmic background radiation, AGN and high energy transients. Two important serendipitous discoveries made by the INTEGRAL mission are new classes of X-ray binaries, namely the ...
